GoDaddy Problems - The Saga Continues

The other day I wrote how GoDaddy can be exceedingly. . . jumpy. . . in pulling down sites without notice to their domain holders. Well, they’ve struck again.

GoDaddy is in the news this week because Wired.com is covering a story about a site called RateMyCop.com which was shut down without notice.

Now this WAS a controversial site because apparently people could post comments and critiques about their local police personnel, and theoretically that could prove dangerous to those police officers who are simply trying to do their jobs.

However, the site didn’t post names of any undercover police personnel, so it wasn’t exactly a secret that these people were policemen and policewomen.

But GoDaddy apparently got nervous about the site and decided to pull it without warning the domain owner in advance.

So again, we see site owners bumping up against GoDaddy’s free speech policing.

Big Brother has a name, and he is GoDaddy.

Meanwhile, discussion about the Wired Magazine article rages around webmasterland.

There’s a discussion thread at the WarriorForum about it: Why You Shouldn’t Use GoDaddy

I made a post early on in the discussion (I’m Cosmokid there.) I repeated some of the common GoDaddy problems people have been experiencing and mentioned that I had been blogging about this lately.

And then my post at the WarriorForum was deleted.

Hmm.

I made a new post saying pretty much the same stuff and that post appears to be staying…….for the moment.

There are a lot of rabid GoDaddy fans out there who think we’re all conspiracy nuts when we try to raise reasonable objections to GoDaddy’s spotty service and many, many issues.

But we don’t all look like this:

“GoDaddy gave me boils! And the plague! Honest!”

As I’ve said before, my favorite domain registrar these days is Namecheap.com and my absolute favorite host is Bluehost.com

And yes, that is an affiliate link for Bluehost because I want to send them lots of business and, who knows? If you sign up for hosting with them I think I might be able to afford enough Starbucks to keep me energized and posting to this blog.

With all the other projects I’m involved with right now, it’s a challenge to keep this blog up to date. So every little bit of Starbucks helps!
